Project for the Needy

Background

The Lancaster County Project for the Needy (LCPN) for more than 30 years has provided a free food box giveaway for the holidays for Lancaster County residents. This giveaway, typically held the Saturday before Christmas, provided a complete holiday meal for 1,200 families and required individuals to stand in line at a designated location for the first-come, first-served distribution.

But with COVID-19 continuing to impact our community LCPN has opted to once again offer a contactless service for their distribution. This decision was made to protect the health and well-being of those in need as well as those volunteering.

Contactless Service

All households that register will have a food box delivered to their home on the morning of December 16, 2023 between the hours of 8:00am-12:00pm. All boxes will be left outside at a designated location provided during registration. The driver will knock on the door or ring the doorbell, then return to the vehicle and call the phone number provided. All recipients must be home to receive the food box.

Notes

  • Telephone registration by calling 211 or 717-291-5462 begin Friday, November 24-Friday, December 8, 2023, 8:00am-5:00pm (calls are accepted Monday-Friday) note that registration may close sooner if the maximum of 1,200 registrations has been met

"Get Connected. Get Help. - Never have those words, our tagline, meant more to us. The breadth of needs continue to increase as individuals try their best to navigate their new normal during a pandemic. Individuals not needing to seek services before reached out for help, and thankfully, United Way's investment in 211 allowed us to continue to respond, with compassion and empathy, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year."
