LANCASTER, PA (September 14, 2026) – United Way of Lancaster County’s Week of Caring kicks off today, Monday, September 14, bringing together volunteers from across Lancaster County for a week of service and community impact.
Throughout the week, corporate groups, families, students, individuals, and community organizations will join forces on 45 projects benefiting 35 local nonprofit organizations. Projects range from cleanups and landscaping to food sorting, painting, and other hands-on service activities that support organizations and the neighbors they serve throughout Lancaster County. On Saturday, September 19, over 200 Millersville University students will participate in 11 Week of Caring projects across Lancaster County, volunteering with additional local nonprofits and community organizations.
United Way expanded its traditional Day of Caring into a Week of Caring in 2023, creating more opportunities for volunteers to give back and for local nonprofits to receive much-needed support. What began in 1991 as a single day of service has grown into a week-long community effort, bringing people together to lend their time, skills, and energy to organizations making a difference across Lancaster County.
“Week of Caring is a powerful reminder of what can happen when we come together to support the organizations strengthening our community every day,” said Jarissa Johns, Volunteer Manager at United Way of Lancaster County. “Whether volunteers are planting, painting, sorting, cleaning, or lending a helping hand, every project makes a difference. We’re grateful to the volunteers and nonprofit partners who make this week possible and show what it means to be United in service to our community.”
Week of Caring will take place every day through Saturday, September 19. Throughout the week, United Way will highlight volunteers, nonprofit partners, and projects across Lancaster County.
