United Way of Lancaster County's mission is to mobilize the caring power of our community to achieve impactful, systemic social change within our community.

Since 1925, United Way has been working with businesses and individuals to improve lives for those who work and live here in Lancaster County. In fact, one in three of our friends and neighbors have had their lives changed by gifts of time, talent and treasure the community has invested in their United Way.

Lancaster County is no stranger to innovation, while of course remaining ever grounded in its rich traditions. Today, more than 100 nonprofits, healthcare providers, schools, faith-based organizations, businesses and government bodies are working together with United Way of Lancaster County to create lasting change in the place we call home. We challenged our Collective Impact Partners to think systemic. We asked them what problems they see with the systems they work in, and how they would form unusal alliances to tackle those issues. Using the collective impact model framework, we are collaborating as a community in unprecedented ways to achieve results that no single entity or economic sector could accomplish alone. In fact, we are the first United Way to make the move to solely fund collective impact initiatives, which we call our Collective Impact Partnerships.

We work to fight the chronic problems plaguing our County and work to make the systemic change necessary to address the underlying causes of our County's most serious problems. United in focus, we are working to achieve these Four Bold Goals:

  1. 100% of our children will enter kindergarten ready to learn.
  2. 100% of students and adults will have post-secondary credentials.
  3. Decrease individuals and families living in poverty by 50%.
  4. 100% of individuals, children and families will have a medical home.

Together with our Partners, we have created a county-wide network of partnerships who are all making strides to improve education, employment, quality of life and healthcare in Lancaster County. They are filling in the gaps and streamlining communication. They support young adults who have aged out of foster care with housing and employment. They mentor home-based child care providers, ensuring that all children enter kindergarten ready to learn, regardless of family income. They provide Lancaster County residents who need frequent health services, with legal aid and financial counseling, saving Lancaster health care systems $46 million since their partnership was formed. And so much.

United Way of Lancaster County needs you. Because your passion, expertise and resources will help the fight become a win. So raise your hand if you're ready to change the game in Lancaster County. Because United we fight, United we ALL win. We have one life. To live better, we must Live United.
