United Way Names 2007
Resource Development Chair

David F. Wolf to Lead Campaign

Lancaster, PA (June 20, 2007) – United Way of Lancaster County has named local businessman David F. Wolf as the Chair of its 2007 Campaign.

With 25 years of experience running businesses, Wolf brings significant leadership expertise to the 2007 campaign. Former President/CEO of Leola-based Clean Burn, Inc., Wolf currently serves as a Chair for Vistage International, a CEO membership organization that has a mission to enhance the lives of CEOs. Wolf says he’s dedicated to helping his members become better leaders who make better decisions and get better results. “Helping people move forward, in their lives and businesses, is one of my highest values. I like to see people succeed,” he adds.

Wolf traces his commitment to helping to his grandfather, who was an active volunteer in his church and local hospital for most of his life, and says it has inspired his involvement with United Way of Lancaster County. Wolf’s interest in United Way also hinges on the organization’s approach to solving community problems by focusing on the underlying causes of some of the county’s most critical issues, such as housing and homelessness and early childhood care and education. As Wolf explains, United Way of Lancaster County’s five community priority areas –“big picture issues” – are also tied to individuals who can make a real difference. “United Way connects real people from companies, government, and agencies to create a network of resources and achieve measurable results,” he says.

The Family/Group Child Care Provider Award was presented to Marisol Malavé, recipient of the first Keystone STAR 2 designation in Lancaster County. Ms. Malavé recently received her Child Development Association certificate from HACC and completed the ASSETS of Lancaster training program, building business skills to complement her professional development in early care and education.

Susan C. Eckert, President of United Way of Lancaster County, says Wolf’s ability to think strategically is an important asset to the campaign and the organization. “He’s also brought an understanding of the importance of team building to our volunteers and staff. We are fortunate to have Dave leading our campaign,” she adds.

Wolf currently serves on the Board of Directors for both Assets Lancaster, a micro enterprise training program for entrepreneurs, and MANTEC, the Industrial Resource Center for the manufacturing community of south central Pennsylvania. Wolf and his wife, Karen, have three sons and three grandchildren.

While the 2007 campaign gets underway officially on Saturday Sept. 8 with the 16th annual Day of Caring, United Way staff and volunteers are already hard at work planning this year’s efforts. Though officials considered the 2006 campaign challenging, the final tally - $10,056,249 – marked the 14th consecutive increase in the annual campaign.

This year, Wolf, the United Way Staff, and the hundreds of volunteers that give their time and talents to United Way have set a goal to have the 15th consecutive year of increased giving to improve lives in Lancaster County. To achieve this goal, United Way of Lancaster County aims to increase number of donors by 2%; to increase corporate giving by 4%; to increase individual and employee giving by 5%; to increase leadership giving by 18%; and to raise $100,000 in new accounts.
