UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN AT HALF-WAY POINT
Dedication of Community Recognized at Report Breakfast

Lancaster, PA (October 27, 2005) – Listing the many reasons for a successful United Way Campaign, 2005 Chair Joe Del Tito specifically acknowledges the local community’s desire to help improve lives and build a stronger Lancaster County.

“When we began work on this campaign more than seven months ago, I knew it would be a lot of work,” said Del Tito, at the mid-campaign report breakfast on Thursday morning. “But I could not have predicted how rewarding it would be to work side by side with the community members and volunteers who make Lancaster County and its people stronger. These individuals and businesses make it all possible.”

During the program, held at Willow Valley, United Way officials announced that donations are up 3.5% compared to completed campaigns to date last year. Additionally, it was stated that corporate giving has increased 2.6% and employee giving is up 3.8%. Finally, at the event’s conclusion, it was announced that the county-wide funding raising effort has resulted in $4,789,367.

“Results at the mid-way point are encouraging, but we must keep working. We have the opportunity to build on this positive momentum,” continued Del Tito. “It is our responsibility to help the poor, frail and forgotten members of our community.”

The report breakfast also gave United Way officials an opportunity to thank the thousands of donors for their generosity thus far. “It is with the community’s support that United Way agencies and programs can help make Lancaster County a better place to live,” said Del Tito. Additionally, the spotlight was shown on United Way’s workplace campaigns – which account for 60% of the total funds raised. Results from several companies were reported at the breakfast, including Armstrong World Industries, Certified Carpet, Johnson & Johnson, Kellogg Company, Lancaster General, Lititz Mutual Insurance and Visiting Nurses Association of Lancaster County.

“Workplace campaigns are the perfect example of collaboration and cooperation,” said Susan Eckert, President of United Way of Lancaster County. “CEO’s, labor unions, management and staff all come together to help build a stronger community.”

The final results of United Way of Lancaster County’s 2005 campaign will be announced in February.

Now, more than ever, United Way of Lancaster County’s resources, agencies and programs are providing services to improve lives and build stronger communities.
